This WP corresponds to the three first SOs pursued in the project ENSURE. The task 2.1 corresponds to the specific objective SO1 (including three main subtasks) and SO2 and is briefly developed below.

WP2 Responsible: María Paz Comech (MC).

Task 2.1 Integration of distributed energy resources in rural grids:

  • Subtask 2.1.a. Analysis of the limits of renewable energy penetration and electrical loads (EVs and heating) in rural grids.

  • Subtask 2.1.b. Increasing the penetration of RE and electric loads by including new elements in the grid: storage systems and 4-branch D-FACTS.

  • Subtask 2.1.c. Improving the penetration of REs and electrical loads, through coordinated control strategies.

Second specific objective (SO2) has only one associated subtask, as those:

  • Subtask 2.1.d. Experimental validation.

Concerning the specific objective of the study of the use of second-life batteries in rural networks (SO3), one task including four subtasks is proposed.

Task 2.2. Assessment of use on rural grids of second-life batteries:

  • Subtask 2.2.a. Modelling of lithium cells.

  • Subtask 2.2.b. Ageing of lithium cells.

  • Subtask 2.2.c. Diagnosis of the state of the cell.

  • Subtask 2.2.d. Evaluation of the optimal application of the cell.

Implementation period: T1-T8.

Milestones and deliverables:

  • M2.1: Modelling and simulation of rural grids, definition of the integration scenarios for the different technologies (T4).

  • M2.2: Characterization of ageing in battery cells in electric vehicles (T6).

  • D2.1: Technical report: Integration of renewable generation and electric loads in rural network (T7).

  • •    D2.2: Technical report: Second life battery applications in rural grids. (T8).

Participants: José Sanz (JS), Julio J. Melero (JM), María Paz Comech (MC), Juan Luis Villa (JV) .
